Ma Cusson Kitchen
1/4 cup butter or shortening
1 1/2 cups or 3/4 lb diced lean pork, chicken, or beef
1 cup onions
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 cup celery
1 cup hot water (more if needed)
1 can bean sprouts, drained
1/2 cup cold water
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon sugar (molasses)
1 tablespoon LaChoy Brown Sauce
Brown celery and onion slowly in butter or shortening
Add salt, pepper, pork (or chicken or beef), and water
Cover and cook for 30 minutes
Add bean sprouts *(see notes)
Add soy sauce, sugar, and brown sauce (or substitute), return to a simmer
Combine cornstarch and cold water, mixing very well
Add pasty mixture to pan slowly until desired consistency is reached
Serve over chow mein noodles
LaChoy Brown Sauce is discontinued, google for substitute (Mix 1 teaspoon of soy sauce in 1/2 cup of dark corn syrup)
* The recipe ends with adding the bean sprouts, but we can pretty much figure the rest of the process
